Zico!

Packed with exciting talent, CSKA Moscow can now boast the services of Zico as manager. The legendary maestro spoke to UEFA of the upcoming season:
“I knew the CSKA players very well even before I started working at the club. So I have found nothing new since I came here. The only thing I did not expect to see were very talented young players like Georgi Schennikov or Alan Dzagoev. It is a real bonus to have such guys in the squad.”
“I prefer to choose the best player at any given moment. That means that in every training session the lads have to work very hard if they want to win a place in the first XI.”
Giving no indication of his lineup against Aston Villa in the UEFA Cup, he said:
“There is plenty of time to decide. In any case we will go all out for victory. CSKA must aim to win every tournament the club enters. It is another question how successful we will be.”
Of Vágner Love he noted:
“Vágner has played in the national team but is out of the Brazilian squad at the moment. My aim is to help him progress and get back in the national team.”
Pleased with returnee Daniel Carvalho, Zico added:
“I like the way he works in training. His motivation is high and he can achieve a lot.”
In summary, discussing Football in Russia, the commented on the competitiveness of the league and the promise on the international stage:
“The Premier-Liga is very competitive. Zenit St. Petersburg and Rubin Kazan were not among the leaders three or four years ago. Moreover, two Russian clubs have won the UEFA Cup and the national team were semi-finalists at EURO 2008™. There is a lack of success at the World Cup and in the Champions League, but it will come.”
