Zenit v CSKA summary + Krylia Sovetov wins big
By: j | July 30th, 2008In Russian Premier League action earlier today Krylia Sovetov Samara continued its impressive home-pitch advantage with a 4-0 detonation of Saturn Moscow Oblast led by a Yevgeny Savin brace. The twenty-four year-old Striker is paired alongside Czech Republic International Jan Koller who just moved over to the squad this June. As Krylia Sovetov climbs the table, now into sixth place, their fortune will rely upon better quality performances on the road. Anton Bober and veteran midfielder Denis Kovba rounded out the scoring against a tired Saturn Moscow squad which lost 3-0 to VfB Stuttgart on Sunday.
Certainly the match to see was Zenit St Petersburg v CSKA Moscow. It was a hard fought, exhausting match just to watch with consistent end-to-end attacking. The flourish of the first half continued after the break when Zenit’s Ivica Križanac was excused after his second yellow card. That didn’t deter Dick Advocaat’s squad and there were a number of close opportunities and after CSKA’s Alan Dzagoev was sent off with his second yellow for simulation, the squads were even again. Both teams had equal opportunities including when Tomas Hubocan headed a ball off a Andrei Arshavin corner at the eightieth minute and ended in a rightful draw.
Both teams play again on Sunday with Zenit’s incredible tour of Moscow concluding against Saturn Moscow, their ninth match in twenty-eight days, while CSKA is home to Krylia Sovetov Samara.

Why are the stands so empty? It seems there was some pretty good football on display.
