Welcome to the Russian Premier League
By: j | July 29th, 2008
I would like to take this opportunity to announce the new blog dedicated towards the Russian Premier League.
Many of you may be unfamiliar with the Russian league at this time or your knowledge might be limited to a few players who have gained prominence on the international scene. However as an individual who has worked within the sport of Football for the past three decades the emergence of the sports new superpower is on the horizon and it is Russia. Mark my words and as I have been telling my associates, if you’re not watching this league, you are missing out on some of the most exciting and creative Football in the world.
Upon the break-up of the former Soviet Union in 1992, an assortment of leagues were created in the fractured area. Development programs, coaching systems were thrown in disarray but the sport stayed true at the core and now as the dust has settled, the national team is climbing international Football rankings and will be a serious threat to bring up the hardware in competition. If you were to consider the many nations formerly under the broad Soviet Union banner you have one of the sports true hot-beds for talent and now, fifteen years after the break-up of the Soviet states, the Russian Premier League is further evidence of why every Football fan should keep a keen eye towards this remarkable league.
The sixteen teams of the League, of which six are in Moscow, are made up of some of finest players on the planet but for the most part they prefer to nobly ply their trade within Russia. For those outside of the area, sadly media coverage is best termed as “less than adequate” and the fan is left to glimpses now and then of the vast wealth of Footballing genius. Incredibly there is a pool of talent in Russia that right now would change the entire shape of the European leagues and the fortune of clubs. With this in mind, I’m taking the leap forward to introduce you to the Russian Premier League, the teams and the great players emerging from the region.
