

Spartak crumbles 2-1 to NEC Nijmegen

In a surprising turn-of-events Spartak Moscow surrendered two late goals to NEC Nijmegen to lose 2-1 today at Luzhniki Stadium. Spartak got off to a fast start, putting up the opening goal only two minutes in as Russian International Nikita Bazhenov’s cross was headed-in from close range by Serghei Covalciuc. With a early advantage Spartak came close to doubling their lead but their efforts fell short. With victory in sight for Spartak, the Eredivisie club leveled the match with six minutes remaining as sharpshooter Jhon van Beukering headed Collins John cross followed up with the winning strike only three minutes later by Lasse Schøne. The loss leaves Spartak and NEC in a tie for the final qualifying spot. Michael Laudrup’s side next face Tottenham while NEC welcomes Udinese of Serie A
