Season Preview: FC Rostov. Slack

Location. Rostov-upon-Don is a big city on Seattle latitude – but we called it South. Rostov is well known after its criminal authorities, delicious lobsters and agricultural trucks. That’s why team’s first name was Tractor.
Team. Eight years ago was Rostov’ moment of glory – club played with Juventus in Intertoto Cup (see photo). Last years turned into survival battle – even money of tobacco tycoon Ivan Savvidi didn’t help. Soon Savvidi left club and took over another city team – SKA of Second league. Rostov lost in funding but unexpectedly improved their results.
Star. Mikhail Buznikin – infant terrible of Russian football. Great dribbler, diver and rowdy. Buznikin played for two big clubs, Spartak and Lokomotiv, and won 6 champion titles. But every time his behavior left him on the bench so his role in victories was minimal despite of his talent.
Transfers. Two keepers, two defenders and two forwards – but really no big deals. Can Serbian Mihailo Pjanovic from Spartak be the one? I’m afraid no.
Rivals. I’ve already told you a story about relationship between Kuban and Rostov. There is also crucial to fight against Spartak – Moscovites always fill Rostov’s net in every match they met.
Fact. Last season Rostov was accused of selling matches. Many clubs do it but only Rostov vs. CSKA game drew high media attention. However it led to nothing.
