Season Preview: Amkar Perm. Chill
By: Ivan | February 25th, 2007
Location. Perm is situated near Ural mountains, 1500 km east and little north from Moscow. No wonder it’s very cold and no grass here in March (look at photo below) so Amkar usually starts season in Moscow on synthetic fields.
Team. Amkar may seems a quite poetic name for a football team but actually it means “AMmonia-CARbomide” – two fossils mining near Perm. Anyway it’s a great local team for a million citizens town – never had great success but always got fan’s respect.
Star. Konstantin Paramonov is an example of faithful player who holds all club records. He plays for Amkar more than 10 years and scored 174 balls. Seems to be the next city governor. Oh, just kidding. But he can try!
Transfers. Amkar signed first ever Spaniard in Russian Premier League – Antonio Soldevilla, ex-captain of Espanyol. Soldevilla was nicknamed La Bestia after his bad nature. Team also bought Bulgarian Georgi Peev from Dynamo Kiev who had problems with alcohol. Good company!
Rivals. They usually begin to fight close to the end of a season – to prevent relegation. No matter who.
Fact. Amkar stadium got its panel broken at summer. The owner of stadium is the city – that’s why club president said he wouldn’t fix it. So it still doesn’t work.
