By: j | January 7th, 2009
After six seasons with Lokomotiv Moscow Sergei Gurenko is returning to his native Belarus in the final stages of his career joining FC Dinamo Minsk of the Belarusian Vysshaya Liga.
Along with seventy-eight caps for Belarus national team he has had a brilliant club career starting in his hometown of Hrodna before joining Lokomotiv Moscow in 1995. After brief stops in AS Roma, Real Zaragoza, Parma AC and Piacenza he returned to Lokomotiv Moscow in 2003. His career has been marked by many things but most notably a level of professionalism and maturity. In heading to Minsk he said:
“It’s time to pay back the country which made me as a footballer.
“I had an opportunity to play for Lokomotiv for a couple more seasons but didn’t want to return home spent as a player.
Besides that, my sons keep telling me I have to bring up 100 matches in the Belarussian league as I went to Russia with 99 games under my belt.”
The Vysshaya Liga season commences in April and Dinamo is anxious to make a run at FC BATE Borisov championship title.
