“Here or somewhere else”

By: j | August 25th, 2008

Zenit Saint Petersburg 3-0 demolition of Samara Kryliya Sovetov yesterday clearly signaled the return of the defending champion to the title race. While they have a lot of points to make up in the tough Russian Premier League, anything can happen and Dick Advocaat will have have clear goals of making a run towards the final Champions League spot.

And while the match showcased continued great play of the Zenit midfield and a brace by fully-recovered Pavel Pogrebniak, Dick Advocaat fueled speculation of Andrei Arshavin’s future with the club as he penciled him out of the lineup. His post-match press conference did nothing to control this issue and further fanned the flames as he noted: “I gave him some time for rest and to think over his future. I am sure, then when he is back in his good form, he will play very good. Here or somewhere else.”

Earlier today Zenit announced a massive €30m signing of Dynamo Moscow midfielder Dani although they denied this had anything to do with Andrei Arshavin’s situation.

I will report on this situation as addition information is available.
