Week 1: Argentinian Score at Far East (much closer to his country than Moscow)

By: Ivan | March 12th, 2007

It has started! Past weekend was first of new Russian Premier League season. So here are its heroes and villains.

Good weekend

FC Moskva
Won the very first match of Premier League at Far East against Luch-Energiya. Vladivostok fans cleaned the pitch for Argentinian Hector Bracamonte who scored ultimate first goal of the season. Last season Luch-Energiya lost in Vladivostok only twice. Now it’s just one slot left.

Igor Shevchenko
Youngster from Samara shot a wonderful left-footed strike to secure Krylya Sovetov dominance over FC Khimki. Unlike another Shevchenko, he did well this weekend.

Egor Titov
Team captain and keeper of “true Spartak spirit” scored in Moscow derby against Dynamo and led his team to win.

“Regular football fans” like President Putin
Satellite television company NTV+ bought Premier League broadcasting rights but was told by Mr. Putin to share it with free state channel. He was a bit hypocrite with “us, the regular sports fans” but now some matches can still be watched for free.

Bad weekend

Gogita Gogua
Georgian centre midfielder of Saturn Ramenskoe had to play right full-back and unfortunately faced Andrey Arshavin, Zenit’ best player. Gogua got second yellow card 3 minutes past second half whistle and his team let three points go in added time when Turk Fatih Tekke equalized.

Dmitriy Loskov
Lokomotiv’ captain failed to score from the spot. His team flew away from Krasnodar with only one point.
