FC Moscow v Legia Warsaw match preview
By: j | August 27th, 2008The first leg of the FC Moscow - Legia Warsaw UEFA Cup qualifier match, could not have ended any sooner for the Citizens and they were very lucky to come out with a 2-1 victory. Legia Warsaw, with it’s tremendous midfield, seemed to come out in a daze, with little attacking inspiration and let FC Moscow dictate the play. After giving up a second goal and going down 2-0, Legia Warsaw’s midfield of Roger, Maciej Iwański and Sebastian Szałachowski woke-up, controlled play and quickly drew the Warsaw club within a goal. Constantly attacking, a leveling goal by the brilliant Roger was inexplicably called back offside and the home squad took the loss on the chin.
The match two weeks ago, FC Moscow has looked very capable with a 2-0 victory over relegation threatened Khimki and a solid performance in losing 1-0 to third-place Amkar Perm’ on an unfortunate last minute own-goal. In it’s own right Legia Warsaw tuned-up this past weekend with a 2-0 victory over Jagiellonia Bialystok on the strength of Miroslav Radovic’s brace.
To win this match, The Citizens need to control Leiga Warsaw’s powerhouse midfield by maintaining possession and not let them into their flowing attack. Additionally they need to summon up the strength to use their home grounds as a strong-suit. At present they’ve had a hard time winning at home but if they do tomorrow, they’ll move into the group stage of the UEFA Cup.
I will report on the match as it concludes.
