FC Moscow v FC København review

As I noted the in the match preview, I expected FC Moscow v FC København UEFA Cup match to be one of the most exciting matches of the day and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was a solid match with very good tactical play and hard tackling that if wasn’t for a goal deep in added-time would have ended in a draw. However to the disappointment of the home fans, Ståle Solbakken’s FC København came away with a 2-1 victory on Czech Republic international and ex-Rangers man Libor Sionko goal five minutes into added time.

The order of the day was late goals and greater urgency as the first goal came three minutes into added time just before the break when Mariusz Jop fouled Morten Nordstrand and a penalty was awarded. Deciding to the take the penalty himself, Morten Nordstrand found the back of the net to give the Danish club the lead. After the break the match continued at its tight pace and it wasn’t till two minutes into added time that Alexander Samedov leveled it. With The Citizens seemingly escaping with a draw Libor Sionko stunned the home crowd, netting the winner a full five minutes into added time.

FC Moscow must rebound quickly as they face Spartak Nalchik on Sunday. While their chances for a UEFA Cup spot for next year is remote, there is an outside chance should upper table clubs cancel each other out.
