could Andrei Arshavin stay at Zenit?
By: j | December 31st, 2008Zenit St Petersburg’s Andrei Arshavin has not been shy of his wishes to leave the club yet could the worlds economic woes have him reconsider his stance?
While the Daily Mirror is curiously suggesting that Zenit St Petersburg’s Andrei Arshavin is willing to cut his wager to help close a deal that would bring him to Arsenal, the article is highly suspect as he or his representatives have not publicly spoken of sizeable wage reduction that would impact the deal. While he may be convinced of a modest reduction it would be completely out of character for his management to make a significant concession with the twenty-seven year-old’s contract.
Additionally with the price-tag of Russian international is heavy challenged by the world’s economic crunch and the once £20m demands will likely need to ratcheted down to the £11-13m range to get done. With this in mind it remains to be seen how anxious its owners, Gazprom, are interested in letting him go at depressed prices and whether he can be convinced to stay with Zenit.
All this makes for some exciting times with the ongoing saga of Andrei Arshavin.
