cancellation of First Channel Cup

By: j | December 29th, 2008

Unfortunately the announcement of the First Channel Cup was premature as the tournament has been canceled. National Football Academy vice-president Alexandr Eidelstein said of the event:

“This tournament should have involved the best clubs of Russia and Ukraine, however after withdrawal of Dynamo and Zenit, the main idea of the tournament won’t be fulfilled”.

“So the final decision on the Cup’s cancellation was made on Monday, but it doesn’t mean that it finishes its existence. I am hopeful that we will manage to hold the tournament in 2010″.

Dynamo Kyiv head coach Yuri Semin, manager of legendary Dynamo Kyiv rightfully noted his displeasure stating:

“We have already planned our preparations, so now we are forced to search for new places for our training camps and new sparring-teams”.

Per the Dynamo Kyiv web-site, Spartak Moscow, Rubin Kazan, Dynamo Moscow and Zenit Saint Petersburg all refused to take part and the organizers had chose to cancel tournament.
