Season Preview: FC Khimki. Village
By: Ivan | February 22nd, 2007
Location. Khimki is Moscow suburb full of egg-boxes (behind the stadium on photo below). The main sightseeing is IKEA mega store so you can imagine what kind of place is it. Stadium New Khimki holds 3000 persons. Countryside, eh? You got it!
Team. Promoted from First league last season – thanks to good team spirit and also to enormous amount of penalties. Squad has good old players from great Spartak Moscow of nineties – Andrey Tikhonov (see below), Vladimir Beschastnykh (also played for Werder Bremen and Racing Santander) and Dmitriy Parfenov.
Star. Midfielder Andrey Tikhonov was one of the leaders for Spartak Moscow. He left club in 2000 following strange decision of then-coach Romantsev. Nowadays Romantsev practically left football for fishing but Tikhonov still remain a leader in every team he plays for. Spartak’ fans usually pay respect to him with banner “Tikhonov forever”.
Transfers. No big names. Nastja Cech (not Czech but Slovenian), Ajdin Maksumic and Dragan Blatnjak – local Balkan stars.
Rivals. No historic rivalry but it’s juicy to think Saturn Ramenskoe as opponent. Both teams are from Moscow region so they will possibly wanna beat hell out of each other. Match against Spartak will be big too because of Tikhonov past.
Fact. Wear a rossoneri shirt. I bet Berlusconi don’t even knows.
